Why is a Vision Board Important?

Vision Boards are a great way to process your own thoughts and understandings about life. When we give ourselves the task to layout our life goals and plans in a visual way, we also have to think about which concepts carry more value to us. This is personal and unique to each individual, while some might value marriage and children, others might value travel and business success.

Again, each vision board is personal, and no judgement can be made on the aspirations represented in this creative way, because its a safe environment to express your true desires and passions in life.

Sometimes the person that understands you the least is the person that you see in the mirror every day. In the society that we live in, putting ourselves first, or understanding our own needs was taught to come last, but this is not the case. Vision boards give you the opportunity to understand yourself in a whole new lens, because you only put what is valuable to you on the board, no explanation needed.

How do I create a Vision Board?

There are a series of ways to make a vision board. The decision is whether a vision board is digital and not, both work towards your self-development.

Vision boards that are not digital can be set up in a series of ways. Bristol board, corkboard, whiteboards are all different tools you can use to put up your images. Images that you can get from magazines, printers, flyers, etc. The issue that these vision boards serve is that it is becoming more difficult to receive images in this generation because things are becoming more digital.

The other way to create vision boards is through digital technologies. There are a series of programs that you can use in order to create these boards. My personal favourite is Canva; however, that is not the only program that can get you the result you want. Below are a series of programs that can be used to create your digital vision board:

Canva

Canva provides a lot of free templates, as well as free media that you can use. You can create an account with your already made google account, or separately. Although there are tons of free media, there are some restrictions on the media you can use, some of the photographs and videos are not free and an upgrade and/or purchase of a “Pro” program is necessary.

Canva keeps your designs saved and compiled in one place. You just have to log in and it is there.

It also available in app format, which is fantastic for phone and tablet users.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is a software that you have to download to your computer, and you must purchase the Microsoft software.

PowerPoint comes with a variety of templates; however, the media search is not as accessible of Canva. Users need to search for their photographs in a separate platform, and then publication of the vision board becomes tricky because of media/photo sharing rights.

Google Slides

Google Slides is free with every google account. It comes with collage templates, and you can also make your own.

Google Slides has the same issue as PowerPoint where you need to search in a separate platform for your photographs, making photo rights a bit more complicated. However, their photo searching is simpler and embedded in the program already, allowing you to stay on your tab when finding the images you want to insert in your vision board.

BeFunky

BeFunky is a program specific to collages. It has templates, examples and access to photographs, similar to Canva.

BeFunky is a bit more confusing to maneuver; however, it can serve its purpose.

What Content do I include in my Vision Board?

ABIGAIL — TEAGAL Lifestyle@teagal.co

Vision boards are personal. Their purpose is to allow you to engage in goal setting and targeting your aspirations. This means that your vision board is what you want it to be.

Vision boards can include a list of the following things:

  • Family Goals
  • Business Goals
  • Success
  • Travel Goals
  • Wealth
  • Environmental Goals
  • Health
  • Wellness
  • Companionship
  • Emotional Goals
  • Passion
  • Hobbies
  • Perspective
  • Perseverance
  • Beliefs
  • Role Models
  • Etc.

This is unique to each individual, what is chosen is personal and a vision board is judgement-free, meaning it is a safe space to layout your aspirations in life.

How can Vision Boards Help with Self-Development?

digital vision board to manifest a prosperous life in alignment with nature and myself, filled with art, harmony, and authenticity — She Digs Deeper@she_digs_deeper

If you have followed this blog for some time, you know that I do not believe in setting timelines for our goals and aspirations. When we set timelines, we become more discouraged if they are not achieved by the deadline. Instead I encourage you to provide checkpoints, short-term goals, that are completed in order to obtain the long-term goal.

When setting up our goals and aspirations this way, we are motivated to continue on the path because we are not looking at the calendar, but looking at an element of the puzzle to complete.

Please refer to the Self-Development & Self-Growth Program for more information.

Vision boards go with that line of thought, because we are not looking at a timeline, but simply a vision of what we want out of life in the present moment. This helps with our self-development because it allows us to look at what we are able to accomplish and the value that we hold in life.

It’s a Kels Thing @itsakelsthingg

Understanding the value that we have in life is what self-development and self-growth is all about. It allows us to turn lens that we are looking through to ourselves, and understand what we can bring to the table. When we create a vision board we are “tooting our own horn”, we are demonstrating to ourselves what we are capable of, and that should inspire and motivate you to want to keep believing in your passions in life.
