What can you control and why you should write it down every morning

Abigail’s Daily is a Daily Column in The Innovative Online Journal to provide you with a short scoop on various topics. Designed to be a quick read during your morning coffee, open up The Innovative every weekday morning at 5:30 am and get your daily dose of Innovative.

In our Take the Lead journals that came out last week, our bullet planner has a section that says: What I can control today. In this section, your task is to make a small web of the things you can control.

Why?

I started writing down every morning what I can control in the day because I noticed that the elements out of my control were the things causing my mood swings, frustration, and the lack of enjoyment that I lived each day. When I am strict about what I can control in the day: my attitude, my moods, my approach, my choices, my worldview, my self-talk, and so many more, depending on the day, I am less likely to feel targetted or triggered emotionally by the unpredictable, by other people and I learn that I can control what I need, even if that doesn’t suit another person’s needs at the time.

Often we can struggle during the day when multiple people want our attention, when stress bombards us, and when we are nervous or awaiting a response. These elements we cannot control, but how we approach them, we can.

It is not rude to respond to someone later.
It is not rude to take a break.
It is not rude to focus on your mental health.
It is not rude to put yourself first so that you can be there for others.

That is in our control, but we often feel like someone will judge us, look down upon us and target us because we took a step back, but our actions are the only things we need to be concerned about.

  1. Very good blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers?

I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a
little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like
Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m
completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Cheers!
