You just had a hectic week and you finally have fallen into the weekend, to then low and behold, it is Sunday. Weekends have a tendency to fly by, one second you are sitting watching a movie with wine and popcorn on a Friday night, the other second you are making your grocery list, meal prepping and getting ready to do it all over again. The constant circle leaves us no time to unwind, why? Because we don’t leave ourselves time to unwind. Here are five wind down tricks you need to try on your Sunday night to have a great week.
- An Early Supper
You can throw some ingredients in the slow cooker and smell it cook all day or start making supper a little early. Either way, having an early supper on Sundays allows you to begin the wind-down process earlier, and therefore, enjoy your time.
- Bath
Draw yourself a relaxing bath. Use Epsom salts, bubbles and maybe even a glass of wine. The concept of a bath will tell your body that it is time to relax.
- Make yourself a cup of tea
Tea is by far the most relaxing beverage out there. My go-to? Chamomile tea. It is caffeine-free and tastes so divine. Your body will begin to melt into relaxation mode and your mind ready to take on the week.
- No screens
It is hard. I know. Allowing yourself to be screen-free an hour before you go to sleep is doable. Turn off the television, turn on your alarms for the next day and plug your phone in. Take this time to prep your lunch for the next day and make sure everything is in order.
- Reading Time
Right before you begin to drift off to dreamland, open a good book. Read for fifteen or thirty minutes, depending on the time available and then close out of the lights. The combination of relaxing tea, no screens and the reading time will allow you to drift off into the most reviving sleep you have ever had. When you wake up Monday morning, you will be awake, refreshed and ready for the week ahead.
